Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery and trafficking
Statement delivered by Iceland

Mr. President,

Iceland thanks the core group for their constructive engagement on the text and on the work undertaken to merge the mandates of the Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery and the mandate of Special Rapporteur on trafficking in persons.

There is a continued need to rationalize and improve the Council’s methods of work. Iceland commends the merger of the two mandates which sets an important example of rationalization and efficiency.

We welcome the establishment of one mandate that will operate under the title of Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery and trafficking in persons, for a period of three years, which we hope will be adopted by consensus.
